Overview
I supervise research students working at the intersection of corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, learner language, and computational approaches to language data. Since 2015, I have been involved in the supervision of research projects at Universität Hamburg and The University of Queensland, in addition to serving on external PhD committees in Norway and Germany.

I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD and MPhil students, particularly in the following areas:
Sociolinguistics, language variation and change, World Englishes General extenders; terms of address and salutations; discourse particles and markers; vulgarity and swearing; adjective amplification.
Learner language, corpus phonetics, learner corpus research Vowel production and voice-onset time among L1 speakers and learners of English; fluency and pausing in learner and L1 speech; accent, intelligibility, and comprehension.
Text analytics, digital humanities, corpus linguistics Applications of AI, large language models, and word embeddings in the language sciences; comparison of association and keyness measures; reproducible workflows for language data.
